Filplastic is situated in the beautiful East Yorkshire countryside and so appreciates more than many companies the importance of protecting our planet. Our Environmental responsibility is not just acknowledged in a static statement but is an important part of our everyday working lifestyle.

Offices
1) Energy;
a. Heating; Gas fired central heating only used when offices are occupied
b. Insulation: Extensively used when renovating offices and double-skinned glazing used throughout
c. Travel; 40 percent of our office staff live within half a mile of the office and therefore do not use a car to travel to work
d. Staff Welfare: There is a huge amount of natural light in all offices also affording pleasant semi-rural views. Our working area per staff is far in excess of standard guidelines.
2) Recycling
a. Every office has separate bins for waste paper recycling
b. All printer cartridges are sent for recycling
c. The low amount of food waste does not warrant any special arrangement
Warehouse
1) Energy
a. Heating; Very limited amount of heating using only efficient heaters. Staff are supplied with thermal clothing.
b. Lighting: All lights are switched off when areas are unoccupied or there is sufficient natural light. Roof skylights are used where possible to allow natural light and reduce electricity usage. Low energy lighting is used wherever possible. All flood and security lighting are on timers.
2) Waste
a. The only waste generated is cardboard which is recycled via local worm treatment centre
b. Paper from the warehouse office is also recycled
c. Rainwater from the roofs is diverted into local ponds
3) Packaging
a. Mainly use cardboard boxes which are recyclable
b. Packing is cardboard supplied by local worm treatment centre
4) Environment
a. Filplastic’s National Distribution Centre is set in 10 acres of rural farmland providing a pleasant working environment
b. Hedgerows and coppices within this land are left to grow naturally to encourage local wildlife
c. Filplastic’s land is the home to a wide range of fauna and animals including owls, hares, pheasant and (unfortunately) moles!
d. The landscaped gardens are planted with hardy shrubs which do not require the use of a hose pipe in the summer
e. Deliveries to our National Distribution Centre are only accepted between the hours of 9am-4pm weekdays to minimise noise pollution and disruption to our neighbours
Field Sales
a. All Company vehicles are diesels and are the most fuel efficient in their class
b. All Area Managers only travel for pre-arranged appointments and are encouraged to make as many calls as possible in that immediate area
c. All Area Managers possess Satellite Navigation Systems to ensure the shortest and most efficient routes are utilised
Suppliers
a. All suppliers are encouraged to deliver goods in full loads
b. Lightweight goods are used to fill delivery lorries so space is not wasted
c. All our timber products are sourced from FSC/PRFC sustained forests
d. Filplastic is working with suppliers on a guide to customers that will indicate whether each product is recycled and/or recyclable
